Content
Sound artist Gilles Aubry will present a practical introduction to various field recording techniques.
The participants will go about making their own audio recordings of
simple day-to-day situations within the city of Arles. In collective
listening sessions, the participants will discuss and share their
experiences. Cultural aspects of sound production and reception will be
addressed : Who is heard? Who is not heard? How can we record the
acoustic, the atmosphere and the materiality of spaces? Is it possible
to define the sonic identity of a location or a particular social group ?
What is the difference between auditive documentation and classic
visual documentation formats? How does the author of the work position
herself?
After an overview of simple editing techniques, each
participant will realize a sound work using various possible formats :
soundscape, portrait, collage, essay, film without picture, installation
or music piece....
The results will be presented to the public at the end of the workshop.
